Two Europeans tour Manila and discuss the sacrifices of Philippine
heroes like Dr. Jose Rizal so that Filipinos
may enjoy freedom. They talk about Ninoy and Cory Aquino
who stood up against a dictator to fight for democracy.
They review the promises of the liberal government of President
Noynoy Aquino, which has given the country a lot of optimism
and hope.
Rainer Adam and Jules Maaten of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation
for Liberty (FNF) emphasize the value of freedom as
they look at the political and economic developments in Manila.
At the occasion of Rizal’s 150th birthday, and as the Philippines
continues to strive for “true freedom,” FNF reaffirms
that the struggles Filipinos fought then and their resilience
to preserve democracy are worth it.
Before an international audience of 200 liberals at the Liberal
International (LI) 57th Congress in Manila on 19 June 2011,
the video was shown to highlight the Philippines’ contributions
to democracy, and to encourage each one to do his share that freedom
becomes no longer a distant dream.
