Over 3000 Endorse Anti-Corruption Campaign
10 November 2013
Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera, Noel Cabangon, Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte and Former Congressman Erin Tañada, along with 40 delegates from the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), and more than 3000 runners trooped to Quezon Memorial Circle on 10 November 2013 for the Freedom Run, showing their support for the campaign "i am free from corruption.">
As in the last the two years, the Freedom Run gathered government agencies, civil society groups, ordinary citizens, and this time, showbiz celebrities to champion anti-corruption programs and lead treading the "tuwid na daan" or straight path. "i am free for corruption" printed on the runners' shirts has become a personal statement and a common cause that encouraged people to sign up for the 3K and 10K run.
The program started with a moment of silence for the super typhoon victims in the Leyte. In April 2013, the Freedom Run was held in Palo, Leyte.
Movie actor Dingdong Dantes and girlfriend Marian Rivera participated in the 3K run. In Dantes' endorsement video of the Freedom Run, he said: Freedom means being able to achieve one's full potential and dreams. Don't let anyone limit your freedom. Don't let corruption leave you powerless as an individual. Mobbed by fans, Dantes and Rivera assembled the Freedom Map when they finished the race and wrote messages on the wall. They also interacted with Fredo, the mascot of the campaign It's All About Freedom of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), a German liberal Foundation that promotes good governance.
FNF started the Freedom Run in 2011. Since then, more and more participants have joined the race. "Quezon City is proud to host this year's Freedom Run and we are happy to see that so many people are one with us in pursuit of good governance," said QC Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte. "We think freedom, we breathe freedom and we live freedom. It is what we are about, and it is what the Freedom Run would like each of us to experience," shared FNF Country Director Jules Maaten.
Senator Bam Aquino, Rep. Leni Robredo, Former Senator Kiko Pangilinan, European Union Ambassador Guy Ledoux, Swiss Ambassador Ivo Sieber, Leah Navarro, Vicky Garchitorena, and Coach Jim Saret posed as endorsers for the Freedom Run. The activity was held in partnership with the Local Government of Quezon City, Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance & Ethical Leadership, Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), Integrity Nation Now, and YesPinoy Foundation. Sponsors include CALD-ALDE, McDonalds, Brooks, Axeia, Macro Asia Corporation, Curves, and Takbo.
