The Kabataang Liberal ng Pilipinas (KALIPI), the youth wing of
the Liberal Party, successfully held its Fifth National Congress
from December 9 to 11, 2004 at the Gerry Roxas Foundation Convention
Center in Roxas City, Capiz. More than 120 delegates from
all parts of the country
attended the congress where
they approved the organization’s general plan of action
for the coming three years and elected a new set of national leaders.
Speaking to the delegates at the beginning of the congress, Dr.
Ronald Meinardus, the resident representative of the Friedrich Naumann
Foundation in the Philippines, stressed the need for the young generation
to actively engage in party affairs. “A strong party
needs a strong youth wing,” Dr. Meinardus said. He
also commended the important role KALIPI has played in programs
sponsored by the Foundation in the Philippines and internationally.
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation was the main sponsor of the
KALIPI Congress in Roxas City. KALIPI and the liberal Foundation
have agreed to cooperate with the aim of implementing some of
the programs proposed by the Congress.
