Book on 60 Years of Liberal Party Out
2006 being the celebratory year of the founding of the Liberal
Party (LP), the Friedrich Naumann Foundation quietly
presented a book detailing the rich history of Philippine organized
at the sidelines of the Council
of Asian Liberals and Democrat
s (CALD), Alliance
of Liberals and Democrats for Europe
(ALDE) and Liberal
(LI) conference on 22 June 2006 in Pasay City.
The 230 pages book is edited by former Education Secretary
Florencio "Butch" Abad and Assistant Secretary Jonathan
Malaya. Liberal Chronicles recounts six decades
of LP history, the ups and downs of the liberal forces, moments
of unity and triumph as well as testing moments of division
"We welcome with great honor and pride the publication
of the book "Liberal Chronicles", a very
fitting literature outlining the party’s sixty years
of service to the Filipino people," writes Senate President
and 13th LP President Franklin Drilon in his foreword.
"Liberal Chronicles is a valuable resource
not only for historians and journalists, but for all Filipinos
interested in liberalism," said Friedrich Naumann Foundation
Resident Representative Dr. Ronald Meinardus. "This is
quite a unique project for the Philippines, and we hope that
the book will foster understanding of the important role the
Liberals have played in the country's history," he concluded.
The liberal Foundation has sponsored the academic research
as well as the printing of the book.
